What size AIRCAP 1™ fits your Royal Spa hot tub?
Royal Spa — Royal Spa Corporation — is based in Indianapolis, Indiana, and moulds its own acrylic hot tub shells. It sells its tubs through its showrooms in the Indianapolis area, online at royalspa.com and through Royal Spa dealers, mostly in the Midwest. Our fitter lists six Royal Spa models with square cabinets that an AIRCAP 1™ fits: the Sultan, Emperor II and King Ultra on sale today, and three that Royal Spa no longer sells — the original Emperor and King, and the Series 1000.
Here is how the 6 Royal Spa models in our fitter map to AIRCAP 1™ sizes:
- The Series 1000 (S-1000), printed at 78.5" x 78.5", takes the AIRCAP 1™ XX-Small, which fits square spas 77–79".
- The Sultan, Emperor II, King Ultra, Emperor and King each have a 94" x 94" cabinet and take the AIRCAP 1™ X-Large, which fits square spas 92–94".
Measure the cabinet, not the shell. For the Sultan, Emperor II, King Ultra, Emperor and King, Royal Spa has printed two sizes: a 90" square acrylic shell set in a 94" square cabinet. An AIRCAP 1™ is sized across the top of the cabinet, so the 94" figure is the one that counts — on these models, a reading of about 90" usually means you measured the acrylic shell inside the cabinet’s top rail, so measure again to the outside edge of the cabinet top. (Maui II owners: see below.) The Sultan, Emperor II and King Ultra are three different shells on that same 94" footprint, so all three take the X-Large. The Sultan and Emperor II are sold in Industry Standard, Hybrid and Medical builds on the same shell, and the Sultan Ultra and Emperor II Ultra in older Royal Spa brochures were 60-jet versions of the same two tubs, so the build or jet package does not change the size.
Older Emperor and King owners: the original Emperor and the King, both sold from the late 1990s, are different shells from today’s Emperor II and King Ultra, but Royal Spa printed the same 94" x 94" cabinet for all four, so each takes the X-Large.
Series 1000 owners: measure the top. The Series 1000, also listed as the S-1000 and sold as Royal Spa’s Economy Series in the early 2010s, is not one of Royal Spa’s acrylic tubs: it has a grey polymer shell on a grey synthetic cabinet, and its shell layout matches the one sold today as the Celtic Hot Tubs Mystic and the Resort Hot Tubs Haven, both 78" square. Royal Spa printed it at 78.5" x 78.5", which takes the XX-Small, but that is only half an inch inside the XX-Small’s 79" limit. Measure across the top lip both ways before ordering: if the longer side is 79" or less it takes the XX-Small; if it is over 79" it takes the X-Small.
Maui II owners: measure first. Royal Spa described the Maui II, which it no longer sells, as a version of the Sultan, but printed its size as 90" x 90" rather than the Sultan’s 94", so it is not in our fitter. Measure across the top of the cabinet both ways: a square top of 89–91" takes the Large, and 92–94" the X-Large. The earlier Maui, the Prince of about 1998–2001 and the first Princess of 1997 are not in our fitter either, and nor is the Royal 8484, which Royal Spa’s 2019 listings tied to Nordic Hot Tubs’ Encore, so measure any of these before ordering too.
Every AIRCAP 1™ ships with the Ziptech™ modular skirt system, so you can zip on the right skirt depth for your cabinet instead of ordering a custom cover.
Not every Royal Spa hot tub takes a square cover. The Majesty has the same 94" x 94" cabinet as the Sultan, but one corner of its shell and cabinet is cut off at 45 degrees, so a square cover will not sit on it. The Crown (81" x 81", printed 79" x 79" in older brochures) and the Monarch (98" x 98") are octagons — those equal numbers are the width across the octagon, not a square. The Royalty II, Regal, Royale and Empress (79" x 87"), the Knight (71.5" x 88") and today’s Princess (63" x 82") are rectangles, and so were the retired Rio II (83.5" x 75.5"), Royalty, QEII, Earl and Squire; the Jewel (79" x 87") is a rectangle with cut corners. Of the Nordic Hot Tubs models Royal Spa resold in 2019, the Royal 78 is round, even though it was printed at the same 78.5" x 78.5" as the Series 1000, the Royal 8472 is a rectangle and the Royal 84H is heart-shaped. The Royal Swim Spa is far longer than any hot tub. The AIRCAP 1™ is built for square cabinets from 77 to 94 inches.
Measure your own spa before ordering — cabinet sizes can change between model years. The SureFit™ measuring guide walks through it in two measurements, and works for any hot tub, Royal Spa or not.
